Dr Alison graduated from the University of Queensland in 1984. She was awarded a Diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology while working at the Gold Coast Hospital in 1988.

Dr Alison completed her Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 1991. Alison completed her Certificate in Family Planning in 1995.
